So far the shipping model of Amazon was pretty simple: core wharehouses in low taxes states, shipping nation wide.
Fact is local businesses pressured states to force Amazon to pay those taxes.
After fighting in all possible ways, seems Amazon found a better option: paying taxes everywhere, thus being able to install logistic centers everywhere. Yes, that means that they could shrink the delivery time from a few days to a few hours, across the country.
Ouch. Local businesses obviously forgot what an 8 hours long night sleep is.
Because if Amazon launches same day delivery on most of their catalogue, please tell my why you’d need your local stores anymore?
Of course, this won’t happen overnight. It’s just the begining of a bloody war: american local retail VS Amazon.
Will the end customer benefit from it?
Who knows.
Maybe the anwser already lives in the following parodic video: Amazon Yesterday Shipping! ;)
